My
nephew Boo Boo still enjoys having his Nana (Mommy) and Aunt Missy (me) make
his Halloween costumes. He always comes
up with the idea for what he wants to be and then leaves it up to us to create
it.
A
few years ago he went as a Union soldier where I made a kepi hat, belt buckle,
and jacket and sized down a belt. I also
found a white dress shirt since I knew it was something he liked. I didn’t make or alter pants because part of
his school uniform included navy blue slacks.
Little did I know that this costume would set the stage for future
costumes.
Last
year Mommy and I made him into the Mayor from Tim
This
year Boo Boo told us that he wanted to be a leprechaun so off to the thrift
store we went. He’s grown a lot this
last year so we purchased another white dress shirt. Then we altered/ created short pants, a
jacket with tails, a bow tie, and a top hat.
The
most difficult part is that we live just over 1,000 miles apart and make these
costumes for him without proper measurements and of course without fittings.
This year he called, just a couple of days ago, thanking us for his
costume and letting us know that it fits perfectly. Unfortunately Boo Boo’s mother isn’t that
great at taking pictures of him in his costume (or sending copies to us when
she actually does take a picture). We
also joked about how he chooses and we create costumes that utilize a white
dress shirt, a suit jacket, slacks, and a hat.
I
do hope that I get a picture of him this year especially since I don’t know how
many more Halloween’s he will want us to make his costumes.
I love your idea for the Mayor! Its so cute but how was he able to see? Did you cut the eye holes after you took the pictures?

Hi Shanell,
Yes, I cut out eye holes after I took the pictures. Since we live so far apart I "borrowed" my cousin's kid to get the measurements to cut out the holes. Boo Boo really loved that costume.
Thanks for commenting!

My son told me he wanted to dress as someone from “The Nightmare before Christmas” for Halloween so I was looking for ideas. Hopefully, it’s something easy to make because I only have a week before Halloween. Thanks for showing me some pictures! You really helped me a great deal.

It is looking pretty great. I just think that these sort of costumes are pretty nice. They are simple but they work, we just need to appreciate a good costume when we see one. I've gone through a lot of costumes to know the difference between good and bad ones.
