Since
the middle of December I have been experimenting with my hair… actually experimenting
with the products I use to wash and condition my hair. Almost five months ago I became shampoo and
conditioner free and began using a concoction of diluted baking soda (water and
baking soda) for the cleansing part and a mixture of water and apple cider
vinegar for the rinse (conditioner).
I
didn’t know if I would be doing it long term or not especially while I was going
through the detox period. During that
time my hair was up in a bun or in a hat (luckily I did it over winter break)
and it took a few days to detox which meant my hair was limp and greasy and
gross which made me really wondered if I would keep up with it. Now, all these months later, I love it.
For
most of you who don’t know, I have curly shoulder length light brown hair and I
haven’t had this much body, without frizz, ever. I don’t have to use other products to keep my
curl or to have height at the root (instead of having it flattened by the weight
of the hair). Also, not buying shampoo
or conditioner has been amazing. I
started out with just a small box of baking soda and a small bottle of apple
cider vinegar and that cost me about two bucks and lasted three months (using a
tablespoon of each every second or third day).
That’s a tremendous return on my investment! Now I went and purchased a gallon of apple
cider vinegar and a large bag of baking soda so I’m set for a while and it set
me back about seven dollars. What a
deal!
This
isn’t for everyone I’m sure, but I like it and don’t mind experimenting
especially when I see the results. And
for those worried about the smell of the apple cider vinegar... it really does dissipate
rather quickly so I don’t go around smelling like salad dressing or like I was
coloring Easter eggs.
I am really interested in doing this. I'm glad to read that it is working for more people. I am researching it more but I want to make sure I have time and that I am doing it right, greasy long hair thing sounds like that would be my problem I'd encounter.

Well, I also love experimenting and this one seems so good. I wanna try it also and I enjoyed reading your article. Thanks for guiding me through this.

Gee! Nice to know that baking soda and apple vinegar cider can benefit us a lot! This alternative may sound new to some people. BTW, you can also use baking soda to whiten your teeth.
