Samantha, my Cousin Christie’s daughter (for those in the know that would mean Samantha is my first cousin once removed) is getting married today. She just turned nineteen two weeks ago and is the first one of that set of relatives to get married…I call them the great-grandkid generation (the one my nephews belong to) relating that my cousins, brothers and I are from the grandchild generation.
She’s so young, but she has been dating this guy for four years and really thinks that this is what’s best so I do wish them well. I wasn’t able to go because the wedding is in southern California
It’s weird to see my cousin’s kids starting to get married. Pretty soon it will be my nephews Boo Boo and Bubba, but not too soon seeing as they are only ten and twelve. It also got me thinking about my cousins and that there are very few of us who have never married or who don’t have kids. These aren’t hard and fast numbers but pretty close I’m sure.
On Mommy’s side of the family there are fifteen of us grandkids (cousins). Out of the fifteen of us there have been fifteen marriages, however four of us have never been married (as far as I know) and there are seventeen great-grandkids from those marriages. (Also the four never married cousins are the ones without children).
One of my cousins just turned fourteen so I hope she’s not married and doesn’t have children. The others include one cousin who is my age and of course my brother, Baby Boy and me. Yikes.
On Daddy’s side the numbers are pretty close (again, not 100% accurate because I haven’t verified them all, but oh well, that’s not the point). There are eleven of us total and there have been twelve? marriages and seventeen kids. Baby Boy and I are the only ones who have never been married and are currently the only unmarried ones of that bunch.
I think it’s funny that the numbers are so close because Daddy was one of four kids and mommy was one of eight! Of course this doesn’t include any of the possible “dirty secrets” families may have…not that I really know of any but there’s always talk.
So back to Samantha…I hope you have a wonderful day and that you really savor this time because it all goes by so quickly. Best wishes and I love you!!
