Christmas Eve activities began early for me this year. I actually began preparing food and things for the festivities yesterday with plans for different activities for both today, Christmas Eve, and tomorrow Christmas Day. However, that is not why Christmas Eve preparations began early, in fact I went to bed early last night (around 9 PM, which is really early for me) because I was tired and I also thought that I would be able to get a good jump on things if I was able to wake up early. Little did I know that midnight would be my wake up call.
I was in that state of slumber where I was dreaming but I was aware that I was dreaming. It was a strange mix of real life and The Office (the US version) all dealing with the holidays when I heard what I thought was a knock on the door. These days, with the warmer weather (all in the mid 30s), snow and ice has been falling off the roof and sometimes it sounds like someone is at my door when it really is just the snow and ice sliding down an inch or a foot at a time (when there’s a really big snow load on the roof and it starts to melt I have been startled awake by the movement… and the crashing to the ground has been so much that my room shook from the impact).
This time it wasn’t snow or my imagination as I heard the tap, tap, tapping on my door. I answered “come in” to the quiet rhythm and Mommy replied “are you awake, come see this.” I hopped out of bed thinking that it must be some animal in the yard because she was much too calm for it to be another bat in the house or anything like that.
She ushered me downstairs to her office where she asked me to sit down in front of her computer. Now I thought that she just wanted me to watch some YouTube video or some clip from a forward she received but when I moved the mouse to see what it was I was taken to her Amazon.com shopping cart.
“Order it for me”
“What?” I questioned as I looked at her.
She had gotten me out of bed; well to be honest, I’m sure she thought I was wide awake because normally I am at that hour, to place an order on Amazon for her. I laughed and then looked at her total and remarked that was an awful lot to be spending on a book at midnight.
She casually stated that it included my Christmas present and she needed me to finish the order for her. I chuckled. This is typical Mommy behavior of waiting until the last minute then not knowing what she is supposed to do next. I made quick time logging her in to her account and showing her what she would need to do if she wanted to place an order on her own when she said, “wait, can they be gift wrapped?”
I clicked the button to see if they could and remarked that for $3.99 and $4.99 they could but I wasn’t about to let her pay for that. She still wanted to have a message put with them so I typed as she expressed “Merry Christmas! Love, Mom”. I quickly copied and pasted the sentiment into the other boxes and finished the order.
With a few more clicks I showed her that the confirmation was already in her email’s inbox and how to check the status of the order but that it wasn’t necessary since I have Amazon Prime and she’s under that account so both my Christmas presents and her stuff would be here in just a few days.
With that, she walked out of the office and climbed into her bed and wished me a good night. So random.
I’ll be back later to share some of the goodies we have prepared and are preparing for Christmas.
Hope you have a very Merry Christmas wherever you are.
