Marie was my grandmother's (Mama) best friend. Apparently she was a gregarious lady who talked my grandpa into taking Mama out to dinner and other things instead of keeping Mama cooped up out in the country. Marie was very good for Mama.
One summer when we were visiting family (back in Mommy's hometown) Mommy went to a garage sale at Marie's daughter Vicky's house. There were the usual knick-knacks but back on one table Mommy noticed Marie was sitting on a table...not the original Marie, a different Marie.
Back in 1975 the original Marie was given a gift of a doll that was made to look like her and thusly named Marie. When Marie passed away Vicky aquired the doll and put her in a box until this particular garage sale. Mommy swooped in a grabbed her up asking Vicky if she really was for sale. Vicky said yes to which Mommy replied, "You're selling your mom? Are you sure?" Vicky had never been more sure. So for five bucks Mommy bought Marie and brought her home.
I was a young girl at the time but loved Marie...she was so beautiful...and is so beautiful even with her crazing. Here she is...
and on a dresser...
Mommy's had Marie for over twenty years now and not until today did she know that Marie has a blue lace slip and knickers...
